Courcy coat of arms

The House of Courcy was a family of the Norman nobility who gained importance in France as well as in England / Ireland. The family is first mentioned around 1020 and died out in the 19th (France) and 18th century (England / Ireland).

The Courcy are among the companions of William the Conqueror and were Seneschals of Normandy. Their ancestral castle is in Courcy (Calvados) . After being enfeoffed in Calvados and Orne at the beginning of the 11th century , they gradually expanded their holdings to include Manche , Seine-Maritime and Eure , as well as England and Ireland.

Remarks

  1. Aubert suspects him to be a member of the Teutonic Order , which, however, did not yet exist during Balderich's lifetime
  2. ^ Aubert wrong: Beaugency
  4. Aubert, quoting Ordericus Vitalis : "Sæpe fatus BALDRICUS magnæ nobilitatis fuit, nam Gilesbertus, Comes Brionnæ, nepos Ricardi, Ducis Normanorum, Baldrico Teutonico ... neptem suam in coniugium dedit, ex quâ nati sunt sex filii: & plures filiæilicet: de Baschevilla & Fulco de Alnon, ROBERTUS DU CURCEIO & Ricardus de Nova-Villa, Baldricus de Balgenzaio & Wigerius Apuliensis
  5. ^ Aubert wrong: Beaugency
  6. It is unclear whether Guillaume I is the son of Robert III, Raoul or Guillaume de Courcy, s. Pattou, p. 3; Aubert states that the Mâitre d'Hotel Guillaume de Courcy was Raoul's son
  7. Aubert: he survived Henry II of England, † 1189, went to Palestine with Richard the Lionheart in 1190 and died on this crusade
