Heineken Cup 2005/06

The 2006/07 Heineken Cup was the twelfth edition of the Heineken Cup , the most important European cup competition in rugby union . 24 teams from six countries took part. The first of a total of 78 games took place on October 20, 2006, the final on May 20, 2007 at Twickenham Stadium in London . Cup winners were the London Wasps from England, who beat the Leicester Tigers in the final .

mode

The participants were divided into six groups of four teams each. Each team played a home and an away game against the three group opponents. In the group stage, the teams received

  • four points for a win
  • two points for a tie
  • a bonus point for four or more attempts
  • a bonus point for a loss of less than seven points

For the quarter-finals, the six group winners (classified according to the number of points won in places 1–6) and the two best runners-up (classified in places 7–8) qualified. Teams ranked 1-4 had home rights in the quarter-finals. The first against the eighth, the second against the seventh, the third against the sixth and the fourth against the fifth.
