NGC 4695 is a 13.5 mag bright bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 221 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years across. The galaxy is considered a member of the NGC 4686 group ( LGG 300 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4669 and NGC 4675 .
The object was discovered twice; on March 24, 1791 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope , who described it as “eF, pS” (listed as NGC 4695); and on May 23, 1897 by Lewis A. Swift (listed as IC 3791).
