Jürgen Barth (born May 12, 1943 in Berlin ; † January 17, 2011 in Raubling ) was a German track cyclist .
He came to cycling through a beginners' competition in Berlin, which he won and for which he received a trip to the world championship as a prize. He won his first championship title in 1961 when he became German youth champion in road driving and sprinting on the track. Jürgen Barth was one of the most successful German amateur track cyclists in the late 1960s and early 1970s. His specialty disciplines were the sprint and the tandem race . His greatest success was the first place at the UCI Track World Championships in 1970 in Leicester in a tandem race, together with Rainer Müller . In 1969 and 1971 the duo from the RC Charlottenburg also won the title of vice world champions.
In 1969, Barth took third place among the amateurs at the prestigious Grand Prix de Paris . Nine times he was German champion in sprint and tandem races, numerous more times he was on the podium.
In 1968 he started at the Olympic Games in Mexico in a sprint, four years later at the Games in Munich with his club mate Müller in a tandem race, but without winning a medal.
In 1970 Jürgen Barth and Rainer Müller were awarded the Golden Band of the Sports Press .
