Jeremy Richard Streynsham Hunt (* 1. November 1966 in Godalming , Surrey ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party . In May 2010, he was Minister for Culture, Olympics , Media and Sport ( Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport ). From September 2012 he headed the health department. From July 9, 2018 to July 24, 2019, he was Foreign Secretary of Great Britain.

Studies and professional activities

After attending the traditional and elite Charterhouse School , the son of Nicholas Hunt , at the time Commander-in-Chief Fleet of the Royal Navy , studied at Magdalen College at the University of Oxford , where he obtained a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics . During his studies he was also President of the Oxford University Conservative Association in 1987 .

After completing his studies, he worked as a management consultant before working as a teacher for the English language in Japan ; during this time he learned the Japanese language . On his return to Britain he became a member and shareholder of Public Relations -Company Profiles PR , during the information technology - boom generated big profits. He later sold the shares in this company together with his childhood friend Mike Elms and instead founded his own company, Hotcourses . This company, which today has more than 230 employees, has grown to become the UK's largest company publishing guides and websites to help you find the right school, college , university or degree program.

Member of the House of Commons and Minister

His political career began Hunt as a candidate of the Conservative Party in the elections in May 2005 , when it was first a deputy of the lower house ( House of Commons ) was chosen and in this since the constituency South West Surrey represents.

After Theresa May resigned as party leader in spring 2019, Hunt applied for this post, but was defeated by Johnson both in the preliminary round in the lower house group and in the ballot of all party members.

Private

Hunt is married to Lucia Guo, whom he met in 2008 at Warwick University . His wife is from Xi'an in the central Chinese province of Shaanxi . The couple have three children together.
