Kenny Roberts Jr. began his career in the motorcycle world championship in 1993 in the 250 cc class. There he rode in his father's Marlboro - Yamaha team. In 1997 he moved to the 500 cc class, also with the Marlboro-Roberts team .

For the 2006 racing season , Roberts Jr. returned. after six years at Suzuki, back to his father's new KR team. With a self-developed machine and Honda engines, he achieved some respectable successes and achieved two third places. The KR team was also supplied with engines from Honda in 2007 , which, due to the new regulations, had a displacement of only 800 cm³.
