Kenneth Lee (Kenny) Roberts junior (Kenny Roberts jr.) (Born July 25, 1973 in Mountain View , California , USA ) is an American motorcycle racer .

He is the son of three-time 500 cc - World Champion Kenny Roberts sr. and won the 500 World Championship himself in the 2000 season . In 2017, Kenny Roberts Jr. inducted into the MotoGP Hall of Fame .

Career

Kenny Roberts Jr. began his career in the motorcycle world championship in 1993 in the 250 cc class. There he rode in his father's Marlboro - Yamaha team. In 1997 he moved to the 500 cc class, also with the Marlboro-Roberts team .

In 1999 , when he joined the Suzuki factory team, there were victories. Roberts jr. With four Grand Prix victories, he finished second in the world championship behind the Honda driver Àlex Crivillé from Spain. In 2000 Kenny Roberts Jr. wrote. History by becoming world champion in the 500 cc class 19 years after his father's last title win. Little Kenny was the sixth US American world champion in the premier class of motorcycle racing and the last world champion before Valentino Rossi began the series of five titles in a row .

For the 2006 racing season , Roberts Jr. returned. after six years at Suzuki, back to his father's new KR team. With a self-developed machine and Honda engines, he achieved some respectable successes and achieved two third places. With the sixth final place Roberts jr. the best final result so far (in the driver standings) for the KR team.

The KR team was also supplied with engines from Honda in 2007 , which, due to the new regulations, had a displacement of only 800 cm³. The season was going on for Kenny Jr. and the KR team, however, very sobering. It was no longer possible to build on the successes of last season. Therefore, Little Kenny had motivation problems, took a break from the Grand Prix of Catalonia and left his place to brother Kurtis .
