The Csongrád (German and County Tschongrad ; Hungarian vármegye Csongrád , Serbian Čongrad / Чонград , Latin comitatus Chongradiensis ) was an administrative unit (county, county) in the Kingdom of Hungary . Today the largest part is in southeastern Hungary (there in today's Csongrád county ), a small part around the place Horgoš is in Vojvodina in today's Serbia .
location
The county bordered the Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun , Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok , Békés , Csanád , Torontal and Bács-Bodrog counties and was traversed by the Tisza River.
history
The county emerged very early in the 11th century. It was occupied by the Ottomans during the Turkish Wars in the 16th century and was not recaptured by the Habsburg Empire until the 17th century. After the end of the First World War , a small part in the south around the town of Horgoš came to the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes . The rest of the part remaining with Hungary remained within its borders until the great county reform in 1950. The southern part of the former Csanád - Arad - Torontal county was added to the area.
