The ball mill ( Kūglmíl ) is a former part of the town of Windsbach in the district of Ansbach in Middle Franconia . In the meantime (2012) it is a desert .

geography

The Brunnenklingengraben and the Weihersbach (also called Bremenwiesbach) flow into the Erlbach (also called Eschenbach ) as right tributaries , which in turn is a right tributary of the Franconian Rezat . The Kummerstall forest area begins north of the village . The forest was a place of refuge for the Elpersdörfer during the Thirty Years' War and was therefore given this name.

history

The ball mill was built in 1705 on Erlbach and operated as a grinding and cutting mill, which was subordinate to the Windsbach caste office . It was named after a ball square (bowling square) that was located there. The mill burned down on May 1, 1716, but was rebuilt in the same year. In 1732 it is mentioned by name for the first time in the Vetter Oberamtsbeschreibung as "Kugel Mühl". Before the Thirty Years War , the swather mill may have stood in the same place, but it was completely destroyed.

Towards the end of the 18th century, the ball mill belonged to Elpersdorf. She had the Brandenburg-Ansbach caste office in Windsbach as landlord . Under the Prussian administration (1792–1806) of the Principality of Ansbach, the ball mill received the number 23 of the place Elpersdorf when the house numbers were assigned. From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the Justice and Chamber Office Windsbach .

As part of the community edict, Kugelmühle was assigned to the Mitteleschenbach tax district, which was formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Mitteleschenbach, founded in 1810 . With the second community edict (1818), Kugelmühle was re-incorporated into the newly formed rural community of Elpersdorf . In the course of the regional reform , this was incorporated into Windsbach on January 1, 1972. After the last resident moved out due to illness, attempts to rent or sell the building probably failed due to the city's requirements and monument protection. The city of Ansbach acquired the mill and had it demolished in 2012. For this purpose, the monument protection (ensemble protection) was lifted. In the meantime nothing has survived from the ball mill.
