The Lancia Dedra (internal designation: 835) is a model of the Lancia brand and was built from April 1989 to January 2000. It replaced the previous model Prisma, which had been built since the end of 1982 .
The Dedra was the sister model of the second generation of the Delta built from spring 1993 . These share the floor pan with the models Fiat Tipo , Fiat Tempra and Alfa Romeo 145 , Alfa Romeo 146 , Alfa Romeo 155 .
history
At first the Dedra was only available as a notchback sedan from spring 1989 to mid-1994. With the revision in mid-1994, the vehicle was also produced as a station wagon under the name Dedra Station Wagon (SW for short).
The standard equipment level exceeded the standard at the time. Lancia claimed to have created a competitor to the Mercedes 190 , BMW 3 Series and Audi 80 . In practice, however, customers saw the Dedra as an alternative to the VW Golf / Vento , Opel Astra and Ford Escort / Focus (also because of the comparatively low purchase price) .
When the model was launched, the car was comparatively well equipped in terms of driving and safety, including ABS (standard in all vehicles with engines from 1.8 l displacement), safety chassis and four headrests. With the revision in the summer of 1994, it then experienced further extensive improvements in passive ( side impact protection , body reinforcements, through the fire prevention system, stronger brakes) and active safety ( airbag , belt tensioner, etc.). These equipment features were not part of the class standard at the time. A passenger airbag could not be delivered until the end of production.
In September 1999 the Lancia Lybra was introduced as the successor to the Dedra. Like this one, it was available as a notchback sedan and a station wagon.
Engines
The engine selection went through numerous changes, in particular the gasoline engines were available in many variants and expansion stages. Gasoline engines with a displacement of 1.6 liters, 1.8 liters and 2.0 liters with and without an exhaust gas turbocharger were installed as the basis. Alternatively, a turbodiesel engine with a displacement of 1.9 liters could also be ordered.

technology
All Dedras were fitted with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard , with the exception of the 2.0 i. e. Automatic, which received a 4- speed automatic transmission from the VW group.
The Dedra was designed as a front-wheel drive. In the first series, all-wheel drive could be ordered in combination with the 2-liter turbo engine as an integral , in the second series, however, only as a station wagon with a 2.0-16V engine. The all-wheel drive technology was essentially based on the Delta HF Integrale and is considered to be very robust. In addition to the Dedra, the identical drive can also be found in the Fiat Tempra 4 × 4 or the Alfa 155 Q4.
The optionally available electronically controlled chassis (computer-controlled damper setting between soft and hard , depending on the road surface and driving situation) was exceptional , as was the optional digital ( optoelectronic ) dashboard or automatic headlight range control. In the course of the production cycle, these equipment options were gradually deleted from the accessory lists or the standard equipment.
