- January: The writer Miguel de Unamuno is removed from his university position by the Spanish dictator Miguel Primo de Rivera and goes into exile in Fuerteventura ,
- January: The publishing house Simon & Schuster is founded in New York City , initially specializing in crossword puzzles.
- JANUARY 15: The BBC radiates the radio play Danger (German title: risk ) of Richard Hughes of which is considered the first storyteller in European history.
- February 29: The Drama gas masks from Sergei Tretyakov will be premiered in Moscow.
- March 3: Seán O'Casey's play Juno and the Paycock premieres at the Abbey Theater in Dublin .
- March: Leonard and Virginia Woolf move the Hogarth Press, which they founded, to 52 Tavistock Square , Bloomsbury (London).
- April: Ford Madox Ford publishes the first volume of his work Parade's End , which he does not complete until 1928.
- June 4th: EM Forster's novel In Search of India is published. Forster will not publish another work in the remaining 46 years of his life.
- September: Thomas Mann's work Buddenbrooks appears in English for the first time; The translator is the American Helen Tracy Lowe-Porter .
- November 29: The Pumpkin , a PG Wodehouse short story from the Blandings Castle saga , appears in the US Saturday Evening Post .
