- The short story collection Dubliners ( Dublin ) by James Joyce is first published. According to the author, 40 publishers had previously refused to publish the cycle of 15 short stories created between 1904 and 1907 .

- February 2nd : The comedy Der Snob by Carl Sternberg has its world premiere under the direction of Max Reinhardt at the Deutsches Theater Berlin . It follows the scandal piece Die Hose as the second part of a trilogy .

- January 1st : Ullstein Verlag takes over the Vossische Zeitung .
- June: The first edition of vortizistischen literary magazine Blast appears. The second edition, published in July 1915 , will also be her last.
- August 8 : The weekly newspaper Die Einigkeit appears for the last time. Ten days later, following a police ban, the localist Free Association of German Trade Unions (FVdG) was suspended. Another union organ, The Pioneer , had its final edition on August 5th . This magazine is also banned because of its radical anti-militarism .
Exhibitions
- May to October: The international exhibition for the book trade and graphics (Bugra) takes place in the leading German “book city” Leipzig . The exhibition is organized by the German Book Trade Association. The initiator of the exhibition is Max Seliger , director of the Royal Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Industry in Leipzig, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the institution he heads. Ludwig Volkmann , the chairman of the book trade association, is elected president of the exhibition .
