The Logan County is a county in the state of Colorado of the United States . The county seat is Sterling .
geography
The county is in northeast Colorado. It borders directly on the US state Nebraska ( Cheyenne County there ). Interstate 76 runs through it from Denver to Lincoln , Nebraska. The Platte River also flows in the same direction here.
history
The county was formed in 1887 from parts of Weld County . It was named after John A. Logan , a Civil War general and future senator.

The county had a population of 20,504 as of the 2000 census . There were 7,551 households and 5,066 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.65 percent white, 2.05 percent African American, 0.64 percent Native American, 0.40 percent Asian, 0.07 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 3.77 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.43 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 11.90 percent of the total population.
Of the 7,551 households, 31.9 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 54.8 percent were married couples living together, 8.6 percent were single mothers. 32.9 percent were not families. 28.5 percent were single households and 12.4 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.02.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.7 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 10.8 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 21.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 14.5 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 112.0 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 114.6 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 32,724 , and the median income for a family is $ 42,241. Males had a median income of $ 28,155 versus $ 21,110 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,721. 12.2 percent of the population and 9.0 percent of families are below the poverty line. These included 13.4 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 10.9 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
