Career

youth

In his youth, Max Jones played for the prestigious Detroit HoneyBaked junior program , before he switched to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP), the central talent factory of the USA Hockey Association, for the 2014/15 season . For the selections of the NTDP, however, the winger only ran one of the usual two years in the United States Hockey League , since he moved to the Canadian Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the London Knights the following year . There he convinced in his first season with a physical game and 52 scorer points from 63 games, while with the Knights he not only won the OHL playoffs for the J. Ross Robertson Cup , but also the subsequent Memorial Cup . As a result, the Anaheim Ducks selected him in the NHL Entry Draft 2016 in 24th position and equipped him with an entry contract in August of the same year .

For now, however, Jones returned to the OHL in London, where he only played 33 regular season games in 2016/17 due to an injury. He made his professional debut towards the end of the season for the farm team of the Ducks, the San Diego Gulls , as part of the playoffs of the American Hockey League (AHL). After Anaheim had sent the American back to the junior division for one last season, the Knights handed him over to the Kingston Frontenacs within the OHL in January 2018 and received the Russian attacker Sergei Popow as well as two draft options for the OHL Priority Selection . At the Frontenacs, he ended the 2017/18 season and at the same time his time in the junior division.

NHL

At the start of the 2018/19 season, Jones moved permanently to the Anaheim Ducks organization, which initially continued to use him in the AHL with the San Diego Gulls. There he appeared as a regular scorer, so that he made his debut for the Ducks in the National Hockey League (NHL) in January 2019 . In their line-up he played 30 games by the end of the season and has been there regularly since then.

International

Jones gained his first international experience during his time with the NTDP, with whose U17 team he took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2014 in November and won the silver medal there. The attacker was the top goalscorer of the tournament with seven hits, so he was included in the All-Star team. The attacker then represented his home country with the U20 national team at the U20 World Cup in 2018 and won the bronze medal there with the team.
