Thônex is a municipality in the canton of Geneva in Switzerland .
geography
It is located southeast of Geneva on the French border, which is formed here by the Foron River. The A411, a branch of the French A40 motorway from Aix-les-Bains (A41), among others, ends in Thônex.
The neighboring communities are Puplinge , Choulex , Vandœuvres , Chêne-Bourg , Chêne-Bougeries , Veyrier and Ambilly and Gaillard in France.
history
The first written mention of Thônex dates from 1225 al Tonnay . In 1816, Thônex came to Geneva from the Kingdom of Sardinia through the Treaty of Turin .

Thônex is the headquarters of the watch factory Rolex and the colored pencil factory Caran d'Ache , both world-famous Swiss brands.

Legislative - Local Council
The legislative power is exercised by the municipal council (conseil municipal) . It has 27 seats and is elected directly by the people every five years using proportional representation with a 7 percent hurdle. The municipal council determines the city budget and votes on submissions from the city government (conseil administratif) . He can also launch initiatives himself. Town twinning
Thônex has been twinning with the French city of Graveson ( Bouches-du-Rhône ) since 1972 . Since 1973 there have been regular exchanges of various kinds between the two communities.
