Montescheno is a municipality in the Italian province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (VB) in the Piedmont region .

geography

The municipality is located in the Antrona Valley . The municipality covers an area of ​​22  km² . The fractions of Barboniga, Cad Mater, Cat Pera, Cresti, Croppo, Ovesco, Progno, Sasso, Selve, Valeggia, Vallemiola and Zonca belong to Montescheno. The neighboring communities are Antrona Schieranco , Bognanco , Domodossola , Seppiana , Viganella and Villadossola .

economy

Agriculture has always been the main means of livelihood for the people of Montscheno and there are no other highly developed activities, so many young people tend to get elsewhere. The municipality is also a summer resort, but economic activities related to tourism have not developed.

Events

Every year in Montescheno on the third Sunday in July there is an atmospheric event; It is a religious procession called Autani , which winds its way through the mountains of the city on a circular route of about 22 km, with departure around 4 a.m. and arrival at 10 p.m. The procession dates back to the 17th century and has hundreds of participants every year.
