traffic
A partly narrow, winding road leads from Cannero via Piancassone to Viggiona and then to Cheglio and Trarego. Trarego-Viggiona is connected to the public transport network: a minibus runs three times a day to and from Cannero, from there there are boat connections to Luino and Intra-Verbania or to Switzerland. There is also a bus commuting between Brissago (CH) and Pallanza. Trarego can be reached on foot via the old road from Cannero-Piancassone or from Oggiogno.
tourism
There is a multitude of possibilities for hiking enthusiasts : The local mountain Monte Carza (1116 m) offers a panoramic view of the Cannobinertal, Switzerland, Luino and on to Laveno; from Trarego it can be reached on foot in about 1.5 hours. Monte Spalavera (1534 m) and Monte Morissolo (1311 m above sea level), which can be reached from Trarego via Oggiogno in about 3.5 hours , also offer a beautiful view . You can also drive close to both peaks on the pass road to Il Colle and comfortably reach the summit in about 30 minutes.
Culture
There are numerous traditional festivals, such as the "Festa da San Eurosia", a religious festival in the Oratorio San Eurosia in early August or the "Festa della Birra" (beer festival) in August. At the beginning of September Trarego invites you to the "Castagnata": Freshly harvested chestnuts are roasted and eaten in the traditional way over an open fire. In Trarego there is the "Museo tattile di Scienze naturali del lago e della montagna" ( tattile : touch or feel). The museum wants to bring the local nature between mountains and lake to life. Churches can be visited in both Viggiona and Trarego, as well as in Cheglio. The church in Trarego, which is dedicated to St. Martin, offers some special treasures: the carved statues of Nera the Loreto (Black Madonna), the Madonna della Cintura and St. Carlo Borromeo, all from the 18th century. The Oratorio San Eurosia, which is outside Trarego, is a nice place to stay. The forests around Trarego Viggiona testify to the earlier use of every piece of land, no matter how steep it is: the slopes are terraced with dry stone walls and there are countless more or less crumbling rustichi (stone houses). The "Linea Cadorna", which the Italian General Cadorna had built between 1915 and 1918 to defend against an attack from the north, is also of historical importance. Between Monte Carza and Monte Zeda, trenches and partially disintegrated military installations can still be found in many places.
