Aurano is a municipality in the Italian province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (VB) in the Piedmont region .

geography

The municipality covers an area of ​​21  km² . The fractions Scareno, Alpe Piaggia, Alpe Segletta and La Selva belong to Aurano . The neighboring municipalities are Cannero Riviera , Falmenta , Intragna , Miazzina , Oggebbio , Premeno and Trarego Viggiona .

history

The memory of the past can be found in the precious monuments that still make up the town of the municipality and its hamlet of Scareno today, as well as in the consistency and quantity of the pastures scattered around the municipality. The story of Aurano is closely linked to the events of Intra, now a hamlet of Verbania , on whose parish church of San Vittore has depended since the Middle Ages as the territory of the Dagagna di San Martino.

Attractions

  • Parish Church of San Bartolomeo built on the remains of a former church that was demolished in 1712. The bell tower also dates from the first half of the 18th century, while the dating of the side chapels of the presbytery and choir is from the early 19th century. A three-arched pronaos draws the facade in strong tones; while in the churchyard adjacent to the church, the recurring element of the column covered with a cross reminds of how Aurano was hit by the great plagues of the 17th century.
  • Church of San Michele in the Scareno district with the vaulted ceiling that is beautifully decorated.
  • Oratorio Madonna del Rosario in the Piaggia district.
