Scottish tracks in the village
The manner in which they dress, the customs and the study of linguistics in the local dialect are evidence of a certain affinity between the people of Gurro and those of Scotland . Several documents from the 16th century tell that after the Battle of Pavia in 1525 between Francis I and Charles V (HRR) some Scottish mercenaries who could not return home found refuge in the village of Gurro. The reason for their choice was that the soldiers in Gurro found living conditions similar to those in the Scottish Highlands .
There are numerous testimonies to the tradition of founding the village. a .:
- The beautiful costume, typical for women, consists of 14 meters long fabric in which the petticoat is made of Scottish fabric and fine workmanship.
- The narrow streets of the village and the old houses in a style that cannot be found in any other village in the valley.
- The load-bearing structure of the walls that make up the perimeter is made of wood formed by a rectangle and cut by a St. Andrew's cross.
