The first document that mentions the municipality with the name Ariciano dates from the 12th century; it is an act of donation of land to the Basilica of San Vittore in Intra , demonstrating the political-religious bond that Arizzano, like all inland centers, linked with the Catholic Church and with Intra. With the territorial division of Visconti from 1393, the village was assigned to the Degagna of San Martino, which in turn was submitted to the mayor of Intra.
