Arizzano is an Italian commune in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (VB) in the Piedmont region . In Piedmontese the place is called Riscian .

geography

The municipality includes the districts of Cissano and Cresseglio and has an area of ​​1.63  km² . The groups Cissano and Cresseglio belong to Arizzano.

The neighboring communities are Bee , Ghiffa , Verbania and Vignone .

history

The name of the place was first mentioned in the twelfth century in a deed of a donation of land in favor of the Church of San Vittore in Intra. The first document that mentions the municipality with the name Ariciano dates from the 12th century; it is an act of donation of land to the Basilica of San Vittore in Intra , demonstrating the political-religious bond that Arizzano, like all inland centers, linked with the Catholic Church and with Intra. With the territorial division of Visconti from 1393, the village was assigned to the Degagna of San Martino, which in turn was submitted to the mayor of Intra.

Attractions

  • Parish Church of San Bernardo di Chiaravalle in late Baroque style, which dates back to the early 18th century, and is a remake and an extension of an older oratorio. Evidence of this reconstruction is preserved inside the church, a stoup in marble by Ornavasso dated 1595 .
  • Monumental mosaic entitled Arizzano: it measures 13 m; and is located on the square of the former town hall. The mosaic was made by Walter Ferrarini , using stones, old bricks, ceramics, marble, granite, Venetian enamel and gold. It is divided into paintings that represent the story of Arizzano through real and symbolic images.
  • Oratory of San Rocco in the district of Cissano.
  • Oratory Sant'Anna in the district of Cresseglio.
