Baveno is a municipality on the west bank of Lake Maggiore in the Italian province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (VB) in the Piedmont region .

geography

The community lies at an altitude of 205 m above sea level. M. The municipality covers an area of ​​17  km² . Its factions are Feriolo, Oltrefiume, Romanico, Roncaro and Loita. The neighboring municipalities are Gravellona Toce , Stresa and Verbania .

history

During the Second World War , after Italy left the war in September 1943, the massacre on Lake Maggiore led to the first mass murders of Jews in Italy , with residents of Meina , Arona and Baveno on the Piedmontese west bank of the lake being particularly affected.

Ventures

In the mountains protruding into the village, such as B. the local mountain Monte Camossio, pink granite is mined and partially processed on site. The stone from Baveno was used in the construction of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan and the Basilica of San Paolo in Rome .
