Vogogna is an Italian commune in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (VB) in the Piedmont region . The place is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy) and is the sponsor of the TCI Bandiera Arancione .
geography
The municipality is located on the Simplon railway line Domodossola-Milano. The municipality covers an area of 15 km² . The neighboring municipalities are Beura-Cardezza , Pallanzeno , Piedimulera , Pieve Vergonte and Premosello-Chiovenda .
history
The village, first mentioned in a notarial deed from 970 AD, remained a farming village until the 13th century, when Vogogna was chosen to be the capital of the Ossola Inferiore due to its geographical location. In 1014, Emperor Heinrich II (HRR) donated the landscape of Ossola Valley to the Bishop of Novara . After the destruction (1328) by a catastrophic flood, Vogogna became the political center of the Lower Ossola Valley and thus the seat of jurisdiction, to which the Quattro Terre also belonged: Masera , Trontano , Beura and Cardezza , which they held as the mandate until 1818 passed to Ornavasso .
