The first historical document, which bears the name Anzola, goes back to a regular investiture of the Bishop of Novara on July 12, 1006. Anzola and the entire lower Ossola Valley were accepted into the rule of the Visconti in 1332 , lords of Milan , who also conquered the upper part of the valley in 1372. In 1374 there were violent clashes in the area between the Ferrari, the Ghibellines loyal to Galeazzo Visconti, and the Spelorci, the Guelphs of the upper Ossola Valley.

- Parish Church of San Tommaso is the only preserved valuable building from the Middle Ages . It is still possible to identify the Roman matrix of the church, although subsequent and numerous restorations have changed the original project significantly. The church was originally dependent on the parish church of San Vincenzo di Pieve Vergonte and later on the nearby church Premosello-Chiovenda ; it was built in 1603 as a parish church. The residents and a philanthropist built a massive bell tower in 1674.
- Oratory of San Rocco was built because of the plague that hit the area hard in 1600, it was actually intended for the celebration of church services in times when the risk of infection was very high.
- Sanctuary of Madonna del Carmine: dominant thanks to its elevated position in relation to the residential area.
