Young talent competition (Tour de France)
The Tour de France junior competition has been held since 1975. The winner is the best driver under 25 in the overall ranking.
From 1975 to 1988, and again since 2000, the leader in the junior competition was awarded a white jersey after a stage . No white jersey was awarded between 1989 and 1999, but the rating was retained. In 2000 the jersey was reintroduced as a visible symbol.
The first winner was the Italian Francesco Moser , who finished the Tour de France this year as 7th overall. The record winners of this ranking are the German Jan Ullrich and the Luxemburgish Andy Schleck , who won three times in a row from 1996 to 1998 and 2008 to 2010 respectively. Other Tour de France winners from earlier years such as Laurent Fignon , Greg Lemond and Marco Pantani were also able to win this ranking.
So far, five winners of this classification were also winners of the overall classification: Laurent Fignon 1983, Jan Ullrich 1997, Alberto Contador 2007, Andy Schleck 2010 and Egan Bernal 2019.
