Nicole Josy (born October 21, 1946 in Wemmel , actually Nicole van Palm ) and Hugo Sigal (born November 10, 1947 in Kinshasa , Belgian Congo , actually Hugo Verbraeken ) are a Belgian pop duo .

Career

Josy and Sigal met in 1970. They formed a singing duo and also became a couple in private. In 1971 they took part in the Belgian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest , which was organized by the Flemish TV station BRT under the title Canzonissima . With the song Goeie tomorrow, tomorrow they could clearly win the preselection against the other eleven presented titles. However, since Nicole fell ill with jaundice shortly before the Eurovision Song Contest in 1971 , they could not take part in the competition in Dublin and were replaced by Jacques Raymond and Lily Castel . They reached 14th place out of 18 participants and never recorded the song on vinyl. In the original version by Nicole & Hugo, however, the song was a big hit and became an evergreen . In the same year they got married in Wemmel.

In 1973 they took part again in the Belgian preliminary round, this time under the title Eurosong , and were able to win again: Baby baby took first place while their second title Jij en ik en wij received zero points. At the Eurovision Song Contest 1973 in Luxembourg they were unsuccessful and came in last place among the 17 participants. They received 58 points, which corresponded to an average of only 1.81 out of five possible points per juror. They were more successful with Met de zomer mee at the World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo in 1974, where they took second place and received the Outstanding Composition Award .

Nicole & Hugo toured around the world for almost ten years until they began singing mainly on cruise ships in 1984 . On October 20, 1990, they received an award from SABAM for their special services to Belgian show business. In 2001, Sigal was voted Senior of the Year by the Antwerp Seniors Club . In 2004 they again took part in Eurosong , the Belgian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest. With the song Love is all around they took second place in the first semifinals and could not qualify for the final. In 2005, her competition entry from 1973 in the Eurovision Song Contest Gala Congratulations was recorded several times as a running gag , Nicole and Hugo also performed live at the end.

Nicole & Hugo released many records and CDs over the years, including some in German-speaking countries as Björn & Suzie . Most recently they hit the Belgian sales charts in 2008 with the single Pastorale .
