history

middle Ages

View from Krautheim Castle - here is the Jagst border between Baden and Württemberg .

Krautheim (what is meant is today's Altkrautheim) was first mentioned in 1096 as Crutheim; the foundation went back to the Franks . The castle (in today's capital Krautheim) was built in 1213 by Wolfrad I von Krautheim on the mountain spur. From 1240 to 1242 the Staufer imperial regalia ( imperial crown , scepter and imperial sword ) were presumably kept in Krautheim Castle. In 1306 Krautheim received city rights together with Ballenberg. Krautheim was first mentioned as a town in 1329. From 1399 Krautheim was under Kurmainz rule or rule.

Modern times

According to tradition, called Götz of Berlichingen in 1516 that in the castle Krautheim seated Mainz bailiff Max stump the Swabian greeting ( "he Soldt me hinden leak hen") to.

As compensation for territorial losses on the left bank of the Rhine , the noble house Salm- Reifferscheidt-Bedburg received the Principality of Krautheim with the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803 , which was newly formed from formerly Electorate Mainz and Würzburg possessions and included the Schöntal monastery , the Gerlachsheim priory and the Grünsfeld office in addition to the town and the upper office of Krautheim . After only three years of existence, the Principality of Krautheim was mediatized by the Rhine Federation Act in 1806. The office of Krautheim was divided along the Jagst into a north-western part of Baden and a south-eastern part of Württemberg; Krautheim as well as Gommersdorf , Horrenbach, Klepsau , Neunstetten and Oberndorf came to the Grand Duchy of Baden , Altkrautheim and Ober- and Unterginsbach to the Kingdom of Württemberg . From 1811 to 1938 the three Württemberg towns were subordinate to the Oberamt Künzelsau (since 1934 Künzelsau district), from 1938 to 1972 to the Künzelsau district . The Baden towns were part of the Buchen district until 1972 . Since both districts had become part of the American zone of occupation after the Second World War , all the places that are today Krautheim's districts have been located in the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden since 1945 , which became part of the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.

badges and flags

The blazon of the Krautheim coat of arms reads: "In a shield divided eleven times by black and silver, a red crossing at the top right, inside a six-spoke silver wheel." The city flag is black and white.

The oldest known seal of Krautheim from 1473 only shows the Mainz wheel . After Krautheim became Baden in 1806, the city seal initially showed a cloverleaf , but again from 1898 on the Mainz wheel. In 1950 the city had the Mainz wheel in a shield split by red and green. The current shield, divided eleven times by black and silver, goes back to the coat of arms of the former local nobility; the flag colors are also derived from him. The current coat of arms, which connects the Mainz wheel with the coat of arms of the local aristocracy, was awarded to the city on November 5, 1955 by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior, the flag on October 14, 1971.
