The municipality of Pöls-Oberkurzheim was created in 2015 as part of the municipal structural reform in Styria from the municipalities of Pöls and Oberkurzheim, which were dissolved at the end of 2014 .

The municipality includes the following 21 localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

economy

The timber industry is an important branch of the economy in the municipality. Numerous local companies, from felling to paper manufacture, are active in this field.

Together with Pusterwald and Pölstal, the community forms the “Region Pölstal” tourism association . Its seat is the municipality of Pölstal. The focus here is primarily on hiking.

In autumn 2017, the billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz announced that he would be opening a brewery in Thalheim Castle, which is located in the municipality. This is to open in 2018 [out of date] and also contain a brewery.
