Oleg Georgievich Goncharenko ( Russian Олег Георгиевич Гончаренко ; born August 18, 1931 in Kharkiv , † December 16, 1986 in Moscow ) was a Soviet speed skater .

Career

Goncharenko became the Soviet Union's first speed skater to become the all- around world champion when he made his international debut in Helsinki in 1953 . In 1954 and 1955 he won the silver medal before he was able to win his second title in Oslo in 1956 . 1958 in Helsinki he won for the third and last time at world championships . In 1957 and 1958 he was also European champion .

At the 1956 Olympic Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo , Goncharenko won the bronze medal over 5000 meters and 10,000 meters.
