The 12th Winter Paralympics were held in the South Korean city of Pyeongchang . The Paralympics are the most important major sporting event for people with physical disabilities and took place after the 2018 Winter Olympics from March 9th to 18th, 2018. The contract between the host countries and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) states that the Paralympics will use the same venue as the Olympic Games.
After the 1988 Summer Games in Seoul, it was the second Olympic and Paralympic Games in South Korea. For Pyeongchang it was the third attempt at an application after the narrowly failed applications in 2010 and 2014. Annecy and Munich also applied to host the event.
Selection of the venue
The decision on the host of the Paralympics 2018 and the Olympic Winter Games 2018 was made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during its congress in Durban on July 6, 2011. Pyeongchang prevailed against Munich and Annecy ( France ).
