Peter Mattli (born May 31, 1944 ) is a Swiss entrepreneur, politician and former racing driver .

Entrepreneur

In the 1930s, Peter Mattli's grandfather ran a horse and cart company in Wassen on Gotthardstrasse . In 1931 he bought the first truck . His son Otto, the father of Peter Mattli, founded his own transport company in 1945 . In 1949 the last horses were sold and the haulage business was run exclusively by truck. The company grew steadily and in the 1970s mainly benefited from the construction of the Gotthard road tunnel . In 1981, Peter and his brother Ruedi took over the company, which today also operates a concrete plant in addition to transporting construction sites and selling materials .

After entering politics, Peter Mattli gradually stepped down from the management of the company, which is now run in the third generation by his nephew Pascal.

Politician

Peter Mattli is a member of the FDP, the Liberals, and was elected to the government of the Canton of Uri in 1987 . Between 1998 and 2000 he served as Landammann and was chairman of the cantonal government . In 2004 he was not re-elected. For several years he sat on the board of the HC Ambrì-Piotta ice hockey club .

Racing career

Peter Mattli was active as a racing driver in the 1960s and 1970s. He competed in mountain races and drove sports car races for several years from 1971 . He competed twice in the Le Mans 24-hour race . In 1971 , he and Walter Brun finished seventh overall in a Porsche 907 . This placement was synonymous with victory in the class for prototypes with a displacement of up to 2 liters. In 1972 he finished the race in 18th place overall.
