Together with Rusitz and Steinbrücken, Roben forms the 11.82 km² district of Roben in the city of Gera in Thuringia with a total of 748 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011).

Roben is located on a plateau in the northwest of the city of Gera on the border with Bad Köstritz in the district of Greiz .

history

The place is Sorbian foundation. The name is probably based on rob 'servant' (cf. Rubitz ); so he called * Robno a "settlement of serfs ". The oldest known documentary mention comes from 1146 in a securitization of Sigibert von Robin , probably a knight at the castle that used to exist in the village, the remains of which can still be found today in the form of ramparts next to the church grounds. The noble of robes can be documented for the years 1146 to 1196 and 1371. In the 16th century, the Robener lands were partially certified for the von Eichigkt family in Langenberg and von Schauroth on stone bridges . The latter acquired it in full in 1609. The Vorwerk zu Roben is smashed in 1690, the place is subject to feudal stone bridges in the following period.

With the beginning of the Reformation, Roben became the parish and school location for the neighboring villages of Rusitz and Steinbrücken.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities Rusitz and Steinbrücken were incorporated. In 1994 Roben was incorporated into Gera.

Attractions

St. Martin : its own support association, in cooperation with the parish of Roben, the Evangelical-Lutheran parish of Großaga-Roben, the Gera district church office and the Gera city administration, endeavors to initiate urgently needed maintenance and renovation measures.

Personalities

1564–1569, the father of the German composer Michael Praetorius (1571–1621) worked as a priest in robes. At the same time, the family of the famous composer Heinrich Schütz (1585–1672) from neighboring Bad Köstritz owned land in the village and the composer Johann Friedrich Fasch (1688–1758) married in robes in 1717 to a daughter of the pastor Laurentius; the most famous descendant of this Laurentius family is the natural scientist Alfred Brehm . Furthermore, the Indologist Richard Hauschild (1901-1970) spent his youth in robes.
