Săliştea (outdated Cioara ; German Tschora , Hungarian Alsócsóra ) is a Romanian municipality in the Alba district in Transylvania .
Until 1965, Cioara (literally crow ) was the official Romanian name of the place Săliştea.
Geographical location
The municipality of Săliştea is located in the lower forest , in the southwest of the Transylvanian Basin . On the river Cioara - a left tributary of the Mureș (Mieresch) - the place Săliștea is located on the county road (Drum județean) DJ 705E, 5 kilometers south of Drum național 7 , about 20 kilometers southwest of Sebeş . The district capital Alba Iulia is about 33 kilometers northeast of Săliştea, the Arad – Alba Iulia railway with the stop of the incorporated village of Tărtăria 5 kilometers north.
history
According to reports by D. Berciu from 1943–1945, G. Téglás 1887, M. Roska , JM Ackner 1856, C. Gooss 1876 and others, many archaeological sites were found in the area of the incorporated village of Tărtăria - called Gura Luncii by the locals Made finds that are associated with the Neolithic , Early Bronze Age and Roman Age . Tărtăria clay tablets with Neolithic inscriptions were found on the territory of the same village .
The place Săliştea was first mentioned in 1458 under the name Warywpathak and in 1733 under Csora .
population
In the official survey of 1850, 1784 inhabitants (1608 Romanians , 139 Roma , 31 Hungarians and 6 Germans ) were registered in the area of today's municipality . By 1941 the population rose steadily to 3045; at the same time the highest number of Romanians (3,041) was registered. The highest number of Hungarians (52) was recorded in 1900 and 1910, that of Germans (11) in 1880 and that of Roma (139) in 1850. In addition, in 2002 three residents identified themselves as Ukrainians .
In 2002, 2374 people lived in the community (2365 Romanians, five Roma, three Ukrainians and one Hungarian).

- The wooden church Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavriil , built in 1798, is a listed building.
- The house of the Barcsay family (today's town hall), built in the 18th century, is a listed building.
- Afteia Monastery , built in the 15th century.
Personalities
- Sofronie de la Cioara, born in the first half of the 18th century in the village of Cioara, fought around 1760 for cultural equality between Romanian schools and the Romanian Orthodox Church in the Habsburg Empire , which was forced into the Greek Catholic Empire .
