The Sports Club Brann , SK Brann for short and known as Brann Bergen in German-speaking countries , is the largest football club in the city of Bergen in Norway . The association was founded on September 26, 1908.
Brann Bergen plays its home games in the 17,000-seat Brann Stadium , which is currently being expanded to a capacity of around 21,000. In October 2005, the city and the association decided to build the last missing grandstand on the southeast side, to demolish the former standing grandstand in the east and to build a new, ultra-modern main grandstand there. Construction began in December 2005. By the end of 2009, the old main grandstand (in parts from 1919) will be demolished and rebuilt.
The Norwegian championship was won in the 1962, 1963 and 2007 seasons and the Norwegian Cup was won a total of six times (1923, 1925, 1972, 1976, 1982 and 2004). One of the greatest international successes is reaching the quarter-finals in the competition for the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1997. The club have so far been denied major international successes. The club's colors are red and white.
In 2014 Brann Bergen was relegated to the 1st division after two relegation games against Mjøndalen IF from the Tippeliga.

Rivalries
The Bergen fans traditionally have rivalries with the haughty capitals of Vålerenga IF from Oslo . In addition, the stadium for the " regional derby " against Viking Stavanger is usually sold out and there is a passionate dislike for Lillestrøm SK . Like almost all Norwegian football fans, Brann's fans have an antipathy for the country's most successful club in recent years, Rosenborg Trondheim . However, it should be expressly noted that in Norway such rivalries are only carried out on the football field and through support in the stands.
Anecdotes
- The " Kniksenprisen " (Knicksen Prize) , named after the Brann legend Roald "Knicksen" Jensen, is awarded annually to the best player of the season. It is donated by the association "Norsk Toppfotball", an interest group of clubs from the Tippeligaen and Adeccoligaen , as well as the "Knicksenstiftung". The award is given to the best league player per position, coach and referee per season, as well as the best Norwegian player (Norway's player of the year).
- Brann was the epitome of an elevator crew in the 1980s when the club changed classes at the end of the season each year between 1979 and 1987. This eight-fold sequence of ascent and descent means a (rather inglorious) world record for this "discipline".
- Brann is known in Norway for inconsistent seasons. A common wisdom in Bergen says: “Brann is falling, autumn has begun!” This refers to the alleged inability of the team to follow a good season with a consistently good season without the end of the season (in Norway, due to the climate the season played in the calendar year). Nevertheless, the club enjoys enormous loyalty from a large part of the residents of Bergen.
- In addition, not many hopes are generally placed in Brann. This is made clear in a line in the novel “Floating over the waters” by the Bergen writer Ragnar Hovland in which a character compares something impossible with the sentence “That's when Brann wins the pot!”.
- The song "Byen e` Bergen" was written by Ove Thue for the 1976 cup final. The song is now one of the most famous songs in Norway. Even Norwegians who are not interested in football usually know the melody and the text of the song.
- Not infrequently, since winning the title in 1963, Brann faced a national championship again. In such years, "Vi gjør det, som i 1963" sounds in the Brann Stadium. So far, to the chagrin of the fans, this hope has turned out to be unfounded - until 2007, when Brann was 7 points ahead of Stabaek IF with two game days before the end and won the title early. This title win triggered a tremendous euphoria in the already patriotic mountains. Almost 100,000 people celebrated on three weekends with a big screen and fireworks on the streets of the city center.
- Brann is the only Norwegian football club to have a fan club in New York City .
Chants
The above-mentioned song Byen é Bergen has long been considered the club's anthem and the chorus is still sung 5-10 times per game:
- Byen é Bergen and Laget é Brann
- Stedet é stadium, så syng all man,
- Heia, Brann Brann, Braaaan. Hey Brann.
The song "Heia Brann" by the fan band "Den tolvte mann" is now more popular among fans :

Since the 2007 season, the song "Gullet ska 'hem" has established itself as the most popular song among fans. Along with winning the championship in the same year, "Gullet ska 'hem" (German: The gold (the title) comes home) became a popular phrase.
- Fra Nymark til Laksevåg
- Fra Nordnes til Loddefjord Torg
- Hele Bergen vet at gullet ska hem
- Gullet ska hem
- Gullet ska heeeeeeeeem
- Hem til mountains
- Gullet ska 'hem
Hardly any other club in Norway enjoys such cult status as Brann, which is why there are so many songs. The most important performers are the above mentioned Ove Thue and "Den tolvte Mann"
