Until the end of 2014, St. Marein near Neumarkt was a municipality with 915 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2016) in the Murau district in Styria . As part of the municipal structural reform in Styria , it has been merged with the municipalities of Dürnstein in Styria , Kulm am Zirbitz , Mariahof , Perchau am Sattel , Neumarkt in Styria and Zeutschach since 2015 , the new municipality bears the new name Neumarkt in der Steiermark .
The basis for this is the Styrian Municipal Structural Reform Act - StGsrG. A complaint by the mayor of Sankt Marein bei Neumarkt to the Constitutional Court against the merger was unsuccessful.
geography
St. Marein near Neumarkt is about 20 km southeast of Murau . The highest point in the former municipality is the Kreiskogel in the Seetal Alps .

- Sankt Marein near Neumarkt (416)

history
The political community St. Marein was established in 1849/50.
Lind Castle (1601) in the St. Marein community near Neumarkt served as a branch (1942–1945) of the Mauthausen concentration camp during the National Socialist regime . About 30 predominantly political prisoners were used for agricultural and forestry work as well as for building roads in the community.
On January 1, 1963, the neighboring municipality of St. Georgen near Neumarkt, which had also existed since 1850, was incorporated into the municipality of St. Marein.
On January 1, 2015, the municipality of St. Marein near Neumarkt was incorporated into the new municipality of Neumarkt in Styria.

According to the 2001 census of workplaces , there were 29 workplaces with 216 employees in the municipality as well as 283 out-commuters and 96 in-commuters. There were 83 agricultural and forestry holdings (42 of which were the main occupation), which together farmed 4,583 hectares (as of 2001).

The primary school Sankt Marein near Neumarkt has four classes with 61 students in the school year 2017/18.

The municipal coat of arms was awarded with effect from June 1, 1986. Due to the amalgamation of the municipalities, this lost its official validity on January 1, 2015.
