Coordinates: 51 ° 0 ′ 45 ″ N , 6 ° 5 ′ 29 ″ E The Church of St. Mary's Rosary is located in the Straeten district ofthe city of Heinsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is on Waldhufenstraße in the center of the village.
history
In 1895 the architect Theodor Kremer from Cologne drew up the blueprint for building a church in Straeten. Construction began on May 30, 1898, and was designated on October 8, 1899. In 1925 a new sacristy was added to the south side of the choir . In the war years of 1944/45 the church was severely damaged, the tower was blown up and completely destroyed. The reconstruction work in 1948 was carried out according to plans by architect Adolf Schafhausen . The church tower was built in 1953, a new altar was consecrated on November 6, 1960.
Together with other parishes, St. Mariä Rosenkranz now forms the community of parishes (GdG) Heinsberg-Waldfeucht in the diocese of Aachen .
architecture
The church is a three-aisled brick basilica with a choir bay and a choir closed on five sides and pointed arches to the side aisles . The nave has a long wood ceiling. There is a ribbed vault in the choir . The three-storey tower is covered with a pyramid roof, which is crowned by a tower cross and a weathercock .
Furnishing
- The organ with 10 registers and an electric action from 1955 was built by Karl Bach from Aachen and expanded to 20 registers in 1980 by Hans Herrmann from Aachen .
- In the church tower there are three bells from the years 1761 and 1953. and a tower clock .
- The church has ornamental and stained glazing .
- Figure of St. Nicholas from the 2nd half of the 15th century in Maasland oak, height 135 cm, width 39 cm, depth 33 cm.
