Tatsuno ( Japanese 辰 野 町 , - machi ) is a town in Kamiina County in Nagano Prefecture on the Japanese main island of Honshū .
geography
Tatsuno is located at the northern end of the Ina Basin on the Tenryū River . Due to its location at the transition between Inatal and Suwatal, it has always been a traffic junction. Tatsuno is the official geographical center of Japan, which is marked there with a sign.
Tatsuno borders the cities of Okaya , Suwa and Shiojiri as well as the municipalities of Minowa and Minamiminowa, which are also part of the Kamiina district . Although Tatsuno belongs to the district of Kamiina, the economic and cultural ties with the municipalities of the Suwa region are stronger.
history
The city of Tatsuno was founded on January 1st, 1947 as a modern local authority . Previously, the same commune had a different name as a village . On April 1, 1955 Tatsuno was amalgamated with the village of Asahi. On September 30, 1956 , the incorporation of the village of Kawashima followed and on March 31, 1961, the incorporation of the village of Ono.

The area of the city of Tatsuno is connected to the Japanese rail network with six train stations. The train stations Tatsuno, Shinano-Kawashima and Ono are on the Chūō main line operated by JR East . Tatsuno, Miyaki, Ina-Shinmachi and Haba stations are on the JR Central- operated Iida Line.
The national road 153 and the Chūō motorway , on which the Tatsuno motorway service station is located, run through Tasuno .
Educational institutions
The city of Tatsuno operates four elementary schools and one middle school. In the Ono district there is also a primary school and a middle school, which are jointly supported by the city of Tatsuno and the city of Shiojiri. There is also the Tatsuno High School, which is supported by the prefecture. With the Shinshū Hōnan Tanki Daigaku there is also a private university in Tatsuno.
Firefly Festival
Tatsuno is known as the city of fireflies in Japan . In the Matsuo Gorge there is a protected breeding area for fireflies. Every year during the mating season of the fireflies, the Tatsuno Firefly Festival ( Tatsuno hotaru matsuri ) takes place, which attracts tourists from all over Japan.
