The Prince's Trust

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prince's Trust is a non-profit organization that aims to help young people from difficult backgrounds. The Trust was founded in 1976 by Charles, Prince of Wales . It supports people between the ages of 11 and 30 who are unemployed and those who have school problems and are in danger of being excluded from school. Many of the young people supported by the trust are in state custody or come out of it and face problems such as the threat of homelessness, or have mental problems, or have already come into conflict with the law.

The Trust organizes a wide range of training programs and offers practical and financial support to develop self-confidence and motivation in young people. Every year the Truth works with around 60,000 young people, three out of four of whom come into work, begin apprenticeships, or accept internships or training.

founding

In 1999 the numerous charities of the Trust were brought together under the name "The Prince's Trust" and officially recognized by Queen Elizabeth II in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace , where she also awarded a Royal Charter . In the following year, branches were set up in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the English regions, with management remaining in London. The Prince's Trust fundraising and campaign events are often supported by celebrities from around the world. In April 2011, the Fairbridge youth welfare organization joined forces with the Trust.

The Prince's Trust is one of the UK's most successful funding organizations and the leading youth charity that has so far helped more than 870,000 young people get their lives under control. It sponsored 125,000 business start-ups and provided economic assistance to more than 395,000 people in the UK (2013). From 2006 to 2016 the amount of aid was estimated at £ 1.4 billion.

Target groups

The trust works primarily with young people from four target groups: the long-term unemployed, people who have come into conflict with the law, people with academic difficulties and people who have been in custody. These young people are seen as "disadvantaged". Some people who have a job and therefore do not belong to the four target groups also take part in courses from the Prince's Trust. In the so-called Employed Participants Scheme, young people are given additional learning and development opportunities to develop their skills as employees, but also to provide additional support for the other participants by working as additional mentors or supporters for the participants. It is also a fundraising initiative as employers pay a training fee for their employees who take part in the program.

Fields of work (charitable activities)

The Prince's Trust has seven main fields of activity.

  • The Enterprise Program : A program to promote self-employment.
  • The Team Program : A 12-week personal development program with internships, training and community projects.
  • Get Intos : Short courses for training and internships in a specific professional field.
  • Get Starteds : One- week courses to build confidence and skills.
  • Fairbridge : A mix of group activities and mentoring.

  • Achieve clubs : information events in schools and other locations.
  • Mosaic Runs Programs : Promotional events at schools where young people can meet their role models.

Enterprise programs

The Enterprise Program is the Prince's Trust's best-known offering. It serves to help young people to become independent. Practical and financial assistance up to £ 5,000 and mentoring are available for 18-30 year olds.

As part of the program, each participant will be assigned a business mentor who will provide up to two years of support in building their own business.

This has helped 86,845 young people to set up their own business since 1983.

In 2017, the Trust launched the Internet training program Enterprise Online to offer 18-30 year old opportunities to explore how to start a business. The program provides information and guidance and access to e-mentors .

Team programs

Team is a 12-week personnel development program that gives young people the chance to acquire new skills, complete qualifications and get to know new people through team-building processes, community projects and internships. The course is usually run by local organizations.

Since 1990 205,063 young people have taken part in the program.

Participants are usually unemployed and still receive JobSeekers' Allowance and other perks while participating in the program. Travel expenses and other expenses will also be reimbursed. There are also participants who are already in the works. For these, the employer has to pay a participation fee of £ 1,250. In 2006/2007 the Trust received almost £ 687,000 from such contributions.

Get into

Get into are short courses that provide young people with experience and training in a specific field and enable them to acquire skills for an application. The focus is on retail, construction, logistics and hospitality.

In 2017, the Trust launched the Employability Online portal to provide 18 to 30 year olds with the basic skills needed to apply. They offer career advice, tips on how to design their résumé and access to e-mentors.

At the end of the introductory course, participants choose a range of activities, from sports to drama and photography to cooking.

In 2016, L'Oréal Paris hosted a course for the Fairbridge program on "relationships, body language and employability" in partnership with the Prince's Trust.

Achieve programs

Often, dagger donations are combined with further support provided by the donor's company.
