Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson , better known as Tove Lo , (born October 29, 1987 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish singer and songwriter , best known for her single Habits (Stay High) . She has released four studio albums so far.

Life

Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson was born the daughter of a psychologist and an entrepreneur. She also has an older brother. Her stage name Tove Lo was given to her by her godmother at the age of 3, as she allegedly had a certain inclination towards lynxes (in Swedish Io ). Lo grew up in the more affluent Djursholm in the municipality of Danderyd , which is about 7 km north of Stockholm. According to her own statements, she had enjoyed a happy childhood because of the well-protected upbringing of her parents and their elegant way of life. In addition to her commendable school performance, she came into contact with literature, whereupon she created her own poems and short stories.

In the course of her youthful development, music became more and more an integral part of her life, so she founded a girl group with a few friends . At the age of 10 or 11 she wrote the first songs with her band. At the age of 15, she made her first compilation , which consisted mainly of poetry , and performed it. Then she enrolled for the Rytmus Musikergymnasiet , a music school in Stockholm. During her stay at Rytmus, she made friends with Caroline Hjelt , who later founded the band Icona Pop with Aino Jawo . After two years of intensive musical training, she decided to pursue a music career from now on, but one that did not meet the expectations of her parents.

Career

2006–2013: career start

In 2006 Lo started writing songs with Christian Bjerring, a guitarist from the band Rytmus. The two formed a rock band called Tremblebee along with three other students from their school. They played together in bars in Sweden for a couple of years and released some of their songs before they split up. During Tremblebee's time, performing on stage became a passion for Lo. She met the Swedish production duo The Struts. After breaking up with her former band, Lo went in the direction of pop music . Then she decided to focus on her own music and stayed in her own studio for six months, recording some demo songs. During this time she learned how to play the drums and also learned a lot about music programming and production. She later lived with Icona Pop in a suburb of Stockholm .

Lo later met an A&R whom she passed a demo to . She met him again at the celebration of Icona Pop's first record deal. The A&R liked the demo and introduced her to a team of songwriters that included The Struts and Hjelt. In 2011 Lo decided to start a career as a songwriter. She got a contract with Warner / Chappell Music and traveled to Los Angeles to work with producer Max Martin . In 2012 she worked with the British production team Xenomania and the Swedish producer Alexander Kronlund. She wrote with them the Something New by Girls Aloud , We Got the World Icona Pop and a few songs for the first album of Xenomania.

Then Lo decided to start a side career as an indie singer. Lo wrote and published much more personal songs. She released her first single, Love Ballad, in October 2012 and her second single, Habits, in March 2013. The latter brought her a lot of attention on the internet. Lo was heard in the song Ron On Love by Lucas Nord, which was released in June 2013 for his album Islands . She was also on the single Strangers by Seven Lions and Myon & Shane 54 for the soundtrack of the 2013 film Chronicles of the Underworld - City of Bones and Seven Lions EP Worlds Apart from 2014. In 2013 she was released by Max Martin and the Swedish Shellback supports producers . She wrote the song Gold by Victoria Justice and a few songs from Tal's album l'infini and Icona Pop's album This Is ... Icona Pop.
