The Georgian Football Association decided on August 3, 2016 to switch match operations to calendar mode. A transition season with 14 teams will be played in autumn 2016, and from 2017 only ten teams will take part in the top division. At the same time the name was changed to Erovnuli Liga ( Georgian ეროვნული ლიგა, to German National League ).
