Walentina Wassiljewna Sidorowa ( Russian Валентина Васильевна Сидорова ; born May 4, 1954 in Moscow , Russian SFSR as Valentina Wassiljewna Burotschkina ) is a former Soviet foil fencer .

successes

Valentina Sidorova was world champion twice in individual and seven times in team competition . In 1977 in Buenos Aires and 1978 in Hamburg she won her singles titles, as well as 1974 in Grenoble , 1975 in Budapest , 1977 in Buenos Aires, 1978 in Hamburg, 1979 in Melbourne , 1981 in Clermont-Ferrand and 1985 in Sofia with the team. She took part in the Olympic Games twice with the Soviet delegation : in 1976 in Montreal , together with Olga Knjasewa , Walentina Nikonowa , Jelena Novikowa and Nailja Giljasowa, she reached the unbeaten final, in which France was also defeated 9-2, and thus became Olympic champion . She finished the individual in seventh place. At the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 , Sidorova finished 13th in the individual, while she again entered the battle for the gold medal with the Soviet team. This time they were defeated by France 6: 9, so that Sidorova received the silver medal.
