geography

Asperhofen is located in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria, 6 km north of Neulengbach , on the edge of the Haspelwald and on Tullner Straße B 19 to Tulln . The area of the market town covers 28.85 square kilometers. 20.87 percent of the area is forested.

Asperhofen is a member of the Wienerwald Initiative Region .

history

In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province . After the final conquest of the Avar Empire by the Frankish Emperor Charlemagne in 803, the villages of Siegersdorf and Wimmersdorf began to be settled. The resulting places were now in the area of the Baierischen Ostland . It was first mentioned in a document in 1037. In 1972, several surrounding communities were incorporated into Asperhofen. The market survey took place in 1987.

Katharina Wolk is the mayor of the market town, and Martin Baureder is the head of the department.
Council: In the market town council there are a total of 21 seats after the municipal elections in 2020 following distribution of seats: List ÖVP 12, Independent List Kisser 4, list FPÖ 3, SPO 2, other no seats.

Asperhofen has a town partnership with the Hungarian spa town of Zalakaros .

Culture and sights

Asperhofen State Garden: The Asperhofen State Garden has been located in the north-west of Asperhofen since 1995. The way through is laid out as a loop and takes about half an hour. It leads through varied terrain, for example through an alluvial forest , along flower meadows , species-rich hedges and through an idyllic deciduous forest through which a small stream flows. Along the way you will find information and advice boards where you can test your knowledge of birds , butterflies , wildflowers, cereals , trees , insects , mushrooms and other things. The path also leads past a lookout tower , the Wilhelm Kisser Jubiläumswarte.
Wilhelm-Kisser-Jubiläumswarte: In May 2001, the Asperhofen Mountain and Nature Rescue and the Asperhofen market town built a viewing point on the hill (254 m above sea level) of the Asperhofen State Garden to mark the 25th anniversary of the Asperhofen Mountain and Nature Rescue. The 15 meter high wooden observation tower was named after Wilhelm Kisser, who died in September 2004. He shaped the market community, among other things, as a primary school director and councilor as well as through his involvement in the volunteer fire brigade and at the Asperhofen regional garden.

Jakobsweg: One of the Austrian sections of the Jakobsweg runs through the municipality of Asperhofen and leads through Siegersdorf, where a pilgrim self-catering hut has been built next to a Jakobsbrunnen. In 2007 a wayside shrine was blessed with a statue of St. James in the village .

Economy and Infrastructure

In 2001 there were 54 non-agricultural workplaces and, according to a 1999 survey, 106 agricultural and forestry holdings. The number of people in employment at the place of residence was 859 (2001 census). The employment rate in 2001 was 49.35 percent.
