10 km walk
10 km walking is an athletics discipline that takes place on the street. In contrast to runners, walkers must always have contact with the ground, at least without any interruption that is visible to the human eye. In addition, the walker must keep the front leg straight from touching the ground to reaching the vertical position. These regulations are monitored by the judges during the competition.
history
The discipline has been an Olympic discipline for men since the Summer Olympics in Stockholm in 1912 . Since the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , it has also been a women's discipline. The female athletes have been walking 20 km since 1999 , although some competitions still walk 10 km.
World records
On May 28, 2000, the Russian athlete Roman Rasskazov set a new world record in Saransk with a time of 37:11 minutes . The world record for women was set by the Russian Yelena Nikolayeva with a time of 41:04 minutes.
