The Annaberg area is a nature reserve (NSG number 4.199) designated by ordinance of March 3, 1992 by the Tübingen regional council in the south of the Baindt municipality in Baden-Württemberg in the Ravensburg district in Germany . It essentially comprises a former gravel pit on the Annaberg on the eastern edge of the Schussen Basin between Baienfurt and Baindt.

location

The approximately 14  hectare nature reserve Annaberg belongs to the natural area of Upper Swabian hill country . It is located south of the center of Baindter and north of Baienfurt at an average altitude of around 490  m above sea level. NN .

geology

When the ice melted at the end of the Würm glaciation around 10,000 years ago in the tongue basin of the developed Rhine glacier several proglacial lake, including the Baienfurter reservoir in excess basin, the Lake Constance Windwärts was sealed off by ice and thereby crack it and the Danube dehydrated. After the ice has melted, the draining water uses the so-called Urnauer Gully to run off to the west; the level of this reservoir fell, and the Schussen ice reservoir was created . Where the Wolfegger Ach flows into the Schussen ice reservoir , an estuary delta was heaped up, today's Annaberg, the height of which thus indicates the former height of the water level in the Schussen ice reservoir. The sediments have silty and clayey bottom layers as well as overburden layers of gravel and sand.

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the preservation of the area as an extensive secondary biotope with a species richness of highly endangered and protected animal and plant species that is unique for such biotopes in Upper Swabia , as well as part of a regional network of dry habitats and retreats for communities that rely on them.

Among the numerous insects found , in addition to endangered species of butterflies , grasshoppers and dragonflies , some species threatened with extinction were found. In addition, the nature reserve is the habitat of protected and endangered bird and bat species , which find their food source in the insect abundance of the area.
