Barbosa is a municipality ( municipality ) in the Antioquia department in Colombia . Barbosa is located in the metropolitan area of Medellín , the metropolitan area of Valle de Aburrá .

Barbosa is located in Antioquia in the Valle de Aburrá sub-region , 36 km from Medellín , at an altitude of 1300 m above sea level. NN . The municipality borders on Santo Domingo to the east, Girardota to the west, Donmatías to the north and Concepción and San Vicente to the south . The urban area, the actual city, is located on the right bank of the Río Medellín .

Barbosa was founded in 1795 and received parish status in 1812.
