geography

Beaumont is located at 755  m , about 11 km south of the city of Geneva (as the crow flies). The village extends in a panoramic position on the northwest slope of the Salève , on the edge of the Genevois south of the Geneva basin, near the border with Switzerland .

The area of the 9.74 km² municipal area includes a section of the Genevois. The municipal area extends from the valley of the Nant de Feigères (source stream of the Aire ) eastward over the plateau of Le Chable and the slope of Beaumont. This is followed by the densely wooded steep slope of the Grand Salève in the southeast. On the Grand Piton , a knoll on the wide ridge of the Salève, the highest elevation of Beaumont and the entire Salève is reached at 1375  m .

In addition to the original village, Beaumont also includes the settlement of Le Chable ( 666  m ) at the foot of the Salève and on the main road from Saint-Julien-en-Genevois to Annecy . Neighboring communities of Beaumont are Neydens in the north, Archamps and Le Sappey in the east, Présilly in the south and Feigères in the west.

history

The place has probably been inhabited since the 5th century AD. In the late Middle Ages it belonged to the Bailiwick of Ternier, which fell under the rule of Bern in 1536. At the same time, the Reformation was introduced in Beaumont . In 1793, the previously independent municipalities of Beaumont, Jussy and Le Chable were combined in the municipality of Beaumont-Jussy-Chable. Since 1951 the seat of the municipal administration has been in Le Chable, the largest town in the municipality of Beaumont.

Attractions

The village church dates from the 19th century. Parts of the Château de Menthon have been preserved.
