Berga is a municipality in the collective municipality Goldene Aue in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz , Saxony-Anhalt , Germany .

The place on the Thyra is about 18 km west of Sangerhausen and about 16 km east of Nordhausen on the L 151, formerly the federal highway 80 , the federal highway 85 and the federal highway 38 . The Kelbra dam and the Kyffhäuser lie south of the village. The Halle – Hann railway line meets at Berga-Kelbra station . Münden , and the Berga-Kelbra – Stolberg (Harz) (Thyraliesel) railway line . Until 1966, trains on the Berga-Kelbra – Artern railway also ran to Berga.

history
Stone Age traces became apparent with the discovery of the individual grave in Berga during road construction work.
On February 5, 985, King Otto III. his court in Berge in Helmegau to the abbess Mathilde von Quedlinburg . A few days earlier, on January 28, 985, this document had already been issued, but not signed. Berga was part of the Kelbra office , which had been administered jointly by the Counts of Stolberg and the Counts of Schwarzburg since the 16th century and which came to the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony after 1816 . Together with Görsbach , Schwenda , Uftrungen , Bösenrode , Rosperwenda and Thürungen, Berga has a share in the Siebengemeindewald , which was given to the communities by Count zu Stolberg for the rescue of his son in 1604.
On February 22, 1945, the express train D 190 Leipzig-Cologne was attacked by US low- flying aircraft with on-board weapons in the Bergaer Kuhried . 41 passengers were killed. In the Nordhausen hospital, 21 seriously injured people died from their gunshot wounds: a total of 62 fatalities.
On April 12, 1945, five Wehrmacht soldiers who had taken up a defensive position near the train station were “shot out” by US troops and shot after they were captured on the Ohl property.
At the beginning of July 1945 Berga, like all of Saxony-Anhalt, was handed over by the Americans to the Red Army and thus part of the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ) and, from 1949, of the GDR .
