The Blaine County is a county in the state of Montana to the United States . This in turn is divided into 5 parishes, Chinook, Fort Belknap, Harlem, Hays and Turner . Its total area is 10,946 square kilometers. The county seat is in Chinook . In the north, the county borders on the Canadian province of Saskatchewan . The county was named after James G. Blaine , a US politician, speaker of the House of Representatives and two-time foreign secretary .

The county had 7,009 people as of the 2000 census . There were 2,501 households and 1,793 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 52.58% White, 0.17% African American, 45.37% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, and 0.23% other races Groups; 1.54% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.00% of the population.

Of the 2,501 households, 36.00% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 52.30% were married couples living together, 14.40% were single mothers. 28.30% were not families. 26.00% were single households and 10.80% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.36 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 32.60% residents under 18 years of age, 8.00% between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.80% between 25 and 44 years of age, 21.60% between 45 and 64 years of age 12.90% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 97.50 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 96.30 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 25,247 , and the median income for a family was $ 30,616. Males had a median income of $ 23,627 versus $ 20,469 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,101. 28.10% of the population and 23.40% of families are below the poverty line. 36.50% of these were under 18 years of age and 19.90% were 65 years of age or older.

One site in the county has the status of a National Historic Landmark , the site of the Battle of Bear Paw . Six buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 7, 2018).
