The Cadillac Le Mans was a concept vehicle developed by the Cadillac division of General Motors in 1953. It was named after the Le Mans 24-hour race that Cadillac took part in in 1950. The two-seater sports car with a GRP body was only 1295 mm high up to the upper edge of the windshield frame. This concept vehicle was the first to see a panoramic windshield on Cadillac . The car was powered by a 250 bhp (184 kW) version of the Cadillac V8 engine with 5424 cc. Cadillac only realized this engine performance in series vehicles in 1955. The total length of Le Mans was 4978 mm. Four were built, but never went into series production and it took Cadillac more than 50 years to develop another car with a similar concept, the XLR . One of the four copies of Le Mans was destroyed in a fire; the other three still exist, with one currently in the Cadillac Historical Collection.
