The Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham is a car model of the American vehicle brand Cadillac produced from 1974 to 1986 .

Model history

With the 1975 model year, Cadillac gave up the traditional name Sixty Special , which had been in use since 1938, and renamed the model Fleetwood Brougham.

The Fleetwood Brougham was a more luxuriously equipped version of the DeVille sedan with a longer wheelbase (initially 337.8 instead of 330.2 cm) with otherwise unchanged technology (rear-wheel drive, rigid rear axle, 8.2-liter V8 with four-fold carburetor (193 hp) or Injection (218 hp)).

For the 1977 model year, all Cadillac models (with the exception of Seville and Eldorado ) were downsized, but retained rear-wheel drive. Since then, the DeVille and Fleetwood Brougham wheelbases have been the same. The drive was now taken over by a seven-liter V8 engine (183 hp with carburetor, 198 hp with injection), the power transmission continued to be the turbo-hydramatic three-speed automatic.

For the 1980 model year, the cars were slightly revised and given a flatter front section, which should improve aerodynamics and thus reduce fuel consumption. At the same time the seven-liter was replaced by a six-liter V8 engine; On request, the Oldsmobile diesel V8 with a displacement of 5.7 liters was available. For the first time, the Fleetwood Brougham was also available as a two-door coupé.

Only in 1981 was the modular, so-called V8-6-4 engine with 6 liter displacement and cylinder deactivation part of the standard equipment; a 4.1-liter V6 or still the diesel was available as an option. From 1982 a new 4.1-liter V8 developed by Cadillac was part of the basic equipment and the V6 was omitted.

When the Fleetwood (together with the Cadillac DeVille ) was again reduced in size and converted to front-wheel drive for model year 1985 , the previous Fleetwood Brougham remained in the Cadillac range as an independent model and was simply called Cadillac Brougham from model year 1987 . 1986 the Fleetwood-Brougham Coupé and the diesel engine were omitted; the 4.1-liter V8 was replaced by a five-liter (307 cui) engine from Oldsmobile.

The large rear-wheel drive model remained in production until 1992 and was replaced in autumn 1992 by the Cadillac Fleetwood on the General Motors -D platform, which was converted back to rear-wheel drive , which was related to the Chevrolet Caprice of the time.
