The Cadillac Provoq is the concept of a luxurious Softroaders that the Cadillac -Division of General Motors introduced on 8 January of 2008. It was first shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in 2008, then at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 2008 and is powered by a plug-in hybrid technology, as was first presented in the Chevrolet Volt . For a longer range, the lithium-ion batteries can be recharged by a fuel cell and solar cells provide the electricity for equipping the vehicle, such as B. the interior lighting and the audio system. Since the Provoq has a hybrid drive, it is based on the same GM Voltec platform as the Chevrolet Volt.
The vehicle is powered by a 70 kW electric motor on the front wheels and two 40 kW electric motors on the wheel hubs of the rear wheels.
The production vehicle was built on the same GM Theta platform as the Saab 9-4X . Originally, the production version was supposed to be called Cadillac BRX and replace the SRX , but instead, Cadillac introduced the second generation with an unchanged name based on the design of the Provoq.
