The Cadillac CT5 is a mid -range sedan presented in spring 2019 by the Cadillac car brand from the General Motors group. The vehicle is the successor to the Cadillac CTS . It is only offered outside of Europe.
Model history
For the first time on March 18, 2019, a preview of the Cadillac CT5 was given with photos on the Internet. In the subsequent marketing campaign (“Sensory Symphony”) via social media (e.g. on Youtube ), up to the presentation of the vehicle, ASMR elements (abbreviation for: Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response ) were used. The first formal public presentation took place at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) of the same year. The vehicle should be available from autumn 2019 as a model year 2020 vehicle. It is intended to replace the Cadillac ATS and CTS models.
At the end of May 2019, the CT5-V, a sportier, more powerful version of the sedan, was presented in Detroit and is to be sold from the beginning of 2020.
For the Chinese market, it was presented at the Chengdu Motor Show in September 2019 and has been available there since the fourth quarter of 2019. In the same month it was nominated as a semi-finalist for the North American Car of the Year 2020.
design
The design of the vehicle is given a resemblance to that of the Cadillac Escala and the rear section of the four-door sedan a resemblance to a hatchback.
The headlights are arched, with the legs extending towards the grille and the outer edge of the hood. They have integrated daytime running lights that have continued right into the bumper. The grille is as wide as the space between the headlights. The taillights are mainly aligned vertically, at the top they continue on the one hand the shoulder line of the sideline and on the other hand with a fork in the bar above the license plate recess. The lettering of the vehicle designation is also at the same vehicle height.
The lettering with the nomenclature introduced in 2019 for the rounded maximum torque and the charging of the engine is on the right side of the trunk lid .
A dark-colored triangle was positioned behind the doors to the rear seats at the transition to the tailgate. The double- sided exhaust trims are trapezoidal and fitted into the bumpers. The exterior door handles of the vehicle are door handles. On the CT5-V, the exhaust trims are double-flow and double-sided (a total of four end pieces).
production
The production of pre-production models at GM's Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Lansing , Michigan , USA , has been taking place since at least March 2019. The vehicle will also be mass-produced there. In mid-2018, GM announced plans to invest US $ 211 million in the plant and its production facilities. For China, the vehicle is produced by the SAIC General Motors joint venture at the Cadillac plant in Jinqiao , Pudong district , Shanghai .
Classification in vehicle classes
While the vehicle is seen in American motor journalism (e.g. by Car and Driver ) in a vehicle class (middle class) with the Audi A4 B9 , the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class , it is used by the German-speaking ( e.g. from Auto Zeitung and Auto Motor und Sport ) compared with the upper middle class with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the BMW 5-series .
Pricing
In the U.S. introductory model year (2020) list prices for the rear-wheel drive model start at 37 US $ 890 ; the all-wheel drive is from 40 $ 490 available. The list price of the previous model Cadillac ATS in model year 2019 started at 38 US $ 995 . The Cadillac CTS, which is also counted among the previous models, had a base price of 46 in the 2019 model year US $ 995 .
technology
The Alpha II platform of GM is the basis of the vehicle. The chief engineer for the vehicle is Mike Bride.
Body and interior configuration
The CT5 is 4924 mm long, 1883 mm wide and 1452 mm high. It has five seats: two in the front row and three in the back row. The luggage compartment volume is 337 l. The tank holds 66 l regardless of the type of drive. The basic model with rear-wheel drive has an empty weight of 1660 kg
Engines
With the launch of two to gasoline engines are provided: a four cylinder - line engine (Engine Code: LSY) having a maximum net power of 177 kW (241 hp) at 5000 min -1 and a six-cylinder - V-engine (Engine Code: LGY) having a maximum net power of 250 kW (340 hp) at 5600 min -1 . The four-cylinder engine has a cylinder capacity 1998 cm³ ( bore 83 mm, stroke of 92.3 mm) and a maximum torque of 350 Nm at 1500-4000 min -1 ; the six-cylinder engine (mm bore 86 mm stroke 85.8) a displacement of 2990 cc and a maximum torque of 542 Nm at 2400 to 4400 min -1 . The engines are installed in the front . While the 2.0-liter engine is charged with a twin-scroll turbocharger , the 3.0-liter engine is twin-turbo charged . The cylinder blocks and heads are cast from aluminum. For the Chinese model with the 2.0-l engine, a top speed of 240 km / h and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h of 7.3 s is specified. The engines have four valves per cylinder, which are controlled by two overhead camshafts per cylinder bank ( DOHC valve control ). A stepless, variable camshaft adjustment with phase adjustment is used to adjust the timing . The mixture is prepared by direct gasoline injection . Both engines have what GM calls “Active Fuel Management” for cylinder deactivation. Using a start-stop system , the engine can be switched off automatically if the vehicle is idle due to traffic. The CT5-V is also powered by a 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine. Whose maximum output is 265 kW (360 hp) at 5600 min -1 , the maximum torque, the type of mixture preparation and the engine supercharging same as low power 3.0-liter engine.
drive
The engine of the Cadillac CT5 has a ten-speed converter automatic transmission for power transmission . All models are available with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive . The gear ratio of the final drive is 2.85: 1. The spread of the transmission, which is the quotient of the ratio in the highest and lowest gear, has a value of 7.3. In CT5-V, which in addition an electronically controlled limited slip differential ( limited-slip differential has) on the rear axle, the automatic transmission of the type "GM Hydra Matic 10L80" and in cooperation with is Ford has been developed.
landing gear
At the front, the Cadillac CT5 has MacPherson struts , the wishbones of which are supported by two ball joints, and twin-tube shock absorbers. At the rear there is a five-link independent suspension . The car has stabilizers on both axles to reduce the tendency to roll . The steering has electrical power assistance with active steering reset to the central position and variable ratio. The CT5-V also has an adaptive chassis with magnetorheological shock absorbers (named by Cadillac: Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 ) that was specially designed for the vehicle.
Braking system and wheels
The vehicle has disc brakes on all four wheels as standard . The braking system is servo-assisted. The brake discs are designed with a diameter of 321 mm or a thickness of 28 mm on the front axle and 315 mm diameter and a thickness of 23 mm on the rear axle. Front brakes with a diameter of 345 mm and 30 mm thickness are also to be optionally available. The larger brakes are standard on the CT5-V, are supplied by Brembo and have four-piston fixed calipers . The parking brake has an electronic control.
The standard light alloy wheels have a rim diameter of 18 "or 19" (for "Sport" and CT5-V). The 19-inch wheels are also available for the “Premium Luxury” equipment line at an additional cost. The tires mounted on the wheels have the dimensions 245/45 R18 or 245/40 R19. The tire types available to choose from are either “self-sealant” (“self-healing”, e.g. with a gel-like polymer layer) or run- flat all-season tires.
Furnishing
Cadillac offers the CT5 in three trim levels: "Luxury", "Premium Luxury" and "Sport". There is also a platinum package for “Premium Luxury” and “Sport”. The sub-model CT5-V is added later.
Exterior fittings
The grille of the "Sport" equipment variant differs from that of the others. In addition, the equipment variant has darker attachment parts. The same applies to the CT5-V.
Interior
All CT5 have a multifunction steering wheel . In the instrument panel will include the engine speed and the speed analog by pointer instruments , depicted with a solid made of pointers. The gear selector lever is in the form of a joystick and is electrically connected to it ( shift-by-wire ). The instrument cluster of the Cadillac CT5-V is designed differently to the other models.
Infotainment equipment
In the middle of the dashboard is a horizontal touchscreen with a 10 inch diagonal to control the infotainment system, which can also be operated with a rotary push button. Smartphone integration is possible with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay . The digital display in the instrument cluster has a standard diagonal of 4.2 inches and can also be 8 inches for a surcharge. In contrast to the Cadillac CUE operating logic used in the previous models, which used touch-sensitive sensor surfaces , the volume of the radio can again be set using two real rotary controls . In the dashboard of the Cadillac CT5 there are two USB ports , an SD card slot , a mobile phone holder and a system for charging electronic devices via induction . There is another USB port and socket for the back seat. The interior and the infotainment system were created by Crystal Windham, who heads the brand's interior design department.
Safety equipment
Active security
ABS , ESP , electronic brake force distribution , LED headlights and the reversing camera that has been mandatory in the USA since May 2018 are standard in all equipment . Some of the more expensive equipment variants also have a lane departure warning assistant, a lane change assistant, a lane departure warning, an adaptive cruise control , an environment monitoring system for what is happening in front of the vehicle and an all-round vision system with cameras. The “Super Cruise” driver assistance system for semi-autonomous driving, which is already available in the Cadillac CT6 , will be offered for the vehicle from the 2020 calendar year.
